Free puppet camp at Newport library
The Newport Public Library will host a week-long puppet camp program for children ages 8-12. The camp will run Aug. 2-5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with an evening performance on Friday, Aug. 6.
Children will create crafts, as well as learn about drama and the history of puppets. All materials will be provided. The camp will end with a full puppet performance produced by the campers. The story will be a modern version of Cinderella and will have the following cast: Cinderella, stepmother, stepsisters, fairy godmother, prince, mice, queen, king, guests at the ball, prince’s servant and a narrator.
Registration is required and is limited for this free project. Registrations are currently being accepted for children who have a background in drama, music or puppets.
Orientation for children and parents will take place at the library, located at 300 Spring St., on July 28 at 6:30 p.m.
