Islander takes second place in sailing championship

Shifty winds posed challenges for the 40 teams competing during the recent U.S. Junior Women’s Doublehanded Championship. It was a gorgeous day on Hingham Bay in Hingham, Mass. as the girls battled for the rights to claim the Ida Lewis Trophy.

The California team of Kate Rackelly and Colleen Hackett prevailed, but runners up Erin Mullins of East Greenwich and Erica Lush of Jamestown put up a serious fight over the final two days of the championship. They won race nine and finished third in race eight.

The Rhode Islanders didn’t finish below third over the final four races of the event (2-1-3-1).
