Dr. Ennis L. Chestang, 80
Mast Street, Jamestown,
also of Surf City, N.C. and Greenville, N.C., passed away Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Newport Hospital.
He was the husband of Gloria N. (Notarantonio) Chestang; they had been married for 57 years. Born in Bristol, Fla., he was the son of the late Edward and Floy (Summers) Chestang.
Ennis taught at the University of Alabama, Georgetown University, Florida State University and retired from East Carolina University as Professor Emeritus in 1996. Traveling and photography were his joy in life. Ennis wrote and published articles on urban geography and his expertise was Cuban cigar wrappers. He received his Ph.D. from Indiana University in 1965.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Pat and Nancy Notarantonio of Jamestown, and Raymond and Rosemary Notarantonio of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; eight nieces and nephews and 10 great-nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Aug. 3, at St. Mark Church in Jamestown. Interment followed in the parish cemetery.
