Train to be a hospice volunteer

A six-week Hospice Volunteer Training program, offered by Visiting Nurse Services of Newport & Bristol Counties, begins Sept. 16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Portsmouth office, 1184 East Main Road.

Hospice at Visiting Nurse Services of Newport & Bristol Counties offers comprehensive end-of-life services to people who live in Adamsville, Barrington, Bristol, Jamestown, Little Compton, Middletown, Newport, Portsmouth, Prudence Island, Tiverton and Warren.

Hospice volunteers are important members of the hospice team who support patients and families by providing companionship, comfort, and respite for patients and caregivers, running errands and preparing meals. Hospice volunteers also help with special events and support the hospice team behind the scenes in the office.

No health care experience is necessary. Registration and interviews are required to participate in the program. For more information or to schedule an interview, please call Joy Benson, Hospice Volunteer Coordinator, at 401-682-2100, ext. 616.
