Labor Day a celebration of all who earn a paycheck

Monday is Labor Day. It is a holiday that traditionally marks the end of our summer season. The vacation is over. The kids are heading back to school. Football players have taken to the field. Soon, we will see a changing of the colors as autumn assumes center stage.

Of course, Labor Day was originally established to recognize the labor movement, and the trade and labor unions that fought for worker rights.

Today, Labor Day is an observance of all the working class. Everyone who earns a paycheck deserves to celebrate this holiday. The sad fact is that many folks will have to work on Labor Day. Perhaps we need to establish another holiday, one for those people who do not get to take the day off on Labor Day.
