Surf’s up...thanks to Earl

Waves surrounded Conanicut Island ahead of Hurricane Earl on Friday afternoon, providing surfers with plenty of action at Mackerel Cove and Hull Cove. Meanwhile, Beavertail was crowded with wave-hunting sightseers who wanted to see the stormy, foamy surf. Fortunately, Hurricane Earl was a non-event and was downgraded to a tropical storm early Saturday, barely ruffling a feather in Jamestown.
