Islander to share Palestine experiences
A Rhode Island resident’s experiences during a recent trip to The West Bank, Palestine, will be the topic of a forum at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 17, at Central Baptist Church.
Sharon Rallis, the Dwight W. Allen distinguished professor of education policy and reform at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, was the guest of her doctoral students, who are part of Palestinian faculty development programs sponsored by Amid- East and the Open Society Institute. She spent time in Ramallah and at her students’ homes in Bethlehem and Nablus.
During the forum, Rallis, who has lived in Jamestown for more than 30 years, will share her experiences and impressions of the people she met in The West Bank and discuss the role education can play in Palestine. The forum will be open to the public at no charge.
Rallis currently teaches and advises doctoral students from across the U.S. and around the world. She earned a doctorate from Harvard University and has written nine books on school leadership and on research methods.
