Jack O’Lantern Jog to be held on Sunday
The Jamestown Recreation Department will hold its 22nd annual Jamestown Jack O’ Lantern Jog 5k Road Race this Sunday, Oct. 31, beginning at 1 p.m.
The starting line is at the fire station and the race winds its way through the streets of scenic Jamestown to the finish line in front of the recreation center.
Some 200 costumed runners and walkers participated in last year’s jog, which makes it a fun island event, providing enjoyment for runners and spectators alike.
In keeping with the Halloween theme, participants are encouraged to dress in their favorite costumes. Awards will be given in categories such as best costume, fastest costumed runner, best youth costume (18 and under), hardest costume to run in, best duo and best group costume (three or more).
Prizes will also be given out to the top three men and women, as well as the first male and female in each division. Divisions include pee wee (12 and under), junior (13 to 18), open (19 to 39), master (40 to 49), senior (50 to 59), veteran (60 to 70), and VIP (70-plus).
This family-oriented event is open to walkers as well as runners, but no baby strollers or pets will be allowed in the race.
Registration and check-in will begin at 11 a.m. at the Jamestown Recreation Center at 41 Conanicus Ave. This year’s on-site entrance fee will be $20.
The proceeds from this year’s Jog will benefit the Jamestown recreation department scholarship fund, which assists Jamestown youth who are unable to afford various programs, such as Six-Flags, Jamestown summer camp, and various other programs and camps. Without the assistance of these scholarships, some youth would be unable to participate.
