JSA Announces Try-Out for 2011 Spring Soccer

The Jamestown Soccer Association (JSA) is pleased to announce its Open Tryout Session for the 2011 Spring Competitive Season of the Under 8, Under 10, Under 12, and Under 14 teams. All Jamestown youth soccer players are encouraged to attend.

This Session will be held rain or shine on Saturday, Nov. 6 at the Eldred Avenue Soccer Fields. U8 and U10 players will try out from 9 to 10:30 a.m. U12 and U14 players are from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Players should wear shins guards and soccer cleats and bring a ball.

Age divisions are determined by birthday and not grade.

U8 players are born between Aug. 1, 2002 and July 31, 2004. U10 players are born between Aug. 1, 2000 and July 31, 2002. U12 players are born between Aug. 1, 1998 and July 31, 2000.

U14 players are born between Aug. 1, 1996 and July 31, 1998.

New this year is an information session for parents during tryouts. Parents are invited to learn more about JSA’s mission, the competitive versus recreational programs and the annual calendar of events. We will hold an informational session for parents at the Eldred fields while their children are trying out.

The Spring Competitive Season is the hallmark of youth soccer on the island. The Program’s primary goal is to foster enjoyment of the game of soccer, while developing individual and team skills and elevating the overall quality of play. Teams are entered in skill-appropriate divisions in the RI Super Liga, a statewide competitive league of over 500 teams.

The season begins in early April and runs through mid-June with games played on either Saturday or Sunday. Training begins with weekly indoor skill development sessions in late January. Teams typically play four home games at Jamestown fields and four away games in neighboring communities. Some teams may elect to enter weekend tournaments in the region. Given the program’s schedule commitments to other communities, as well as its focus on developing team play, Spring Soccer requires attendance at all practices and games.

JSA had a highly successful 2010 spring season, fielding eight teams across five age divisions. Jamestown is fortunate again this year to have a wealth of coaching experience supporting the players.

Interested players who are unable to attend the Nov. 6 sessions should contact Michele or Michael Egan in advance at 423- 9883 or michele.egan@cox.net.
