Irwin sets school’s varsity cross-country record

Daniel Irwin of Jamestown recently set the varsity cross-country record for the Prout School. The sophomore became the first Prout athlete to run the 5k distance in under 17 minutes. He now holds both the Prout freshmen and varsity records.

On Oct. 30, Irwin ran in the Rhode Island Class C Cross Country Championships at Ponagansett High School. He finished 11th in the race, with a time of 17:33.54, a minute behind winner Liam Hillery of Smithfield High. As a team, Prout finished fourth. Irwin is currently second-team All Division and second-team All Class in the state.
