Gaynor, PEMA meets nation’s highest standards
The Providence Emergency Management Agency, under the direction of Jamestown’s Peter Gaynor, has met the nation’s highest standards in emergency preparedness, making it the first municipality in the United States to receive a national endorsement from the Emergency Management Accreditation Program.
“I’m thrilled that PEMA has achieved national accreditation,” Gaynor said, who is the director of the agency. “I couldn’t be prouder of my staff for their hard work and laser-sharp focus on excellence over the past two years to ensure that PEMA met all 63 nationally recognized standards.”
Mayor David Cicilline appointed Gaynor, a retired Marine lieutenant colonel who spent 26 years in the service, to the position in early 2008.
“The staff of the Providence Emergency Management Agency under Pete Gaynor’s leadership has done an extraordinary job strengthening PEMA by striving to meet the highest professional standards in emergency management,” Cicilline said.
