Child molestation charged

Michael J. Caswell, 48, of 19 Clinton Ave., was charged on Dec. 3 with first-degree child molestation. The case remains under investigation, police said.

Caswell was taken into custody and held at the Adult Correctional Institute in Cranston. A bail hearing at Newport District Court is set for Dec. 15, according to police.

Driving with suspended license

• Karen Freitas, 53, of 1235 North Main Rd., was charged Dec. 1 with driving with a suspended license. Freitas was stopped on North Road for speeding, and when her license was called in for verifi- cation, it was listed as suspended, police said.

Freitas was not held at the police station. An arraignment was scheduled for Dec. 10 at Newport District Court, according to police.

• Moira H. McGuirl, 37, of 57 Country Hill Lane, North Kingston, was charged Dec. 3 with driving with a suspended license. McGuirl was stopped on North Road for a traffic infraction. When her license was called in for verifi- cation, it was listed as suspended, police said.

McGuirl was not held at the police station. An arraignment was scheduled for Dec. 10 at Newport District Court, according to police.

Incidents

On Dec. 6, a man was reported to the police for panhandling at the town library. When police confronted the man, he said that he wanted to report the library for putting trash receptacles in inconvenient locations for library visitors. Police escorted the man out of the library and asked him to stop his activities.
