87, of High Service
Avenue and 53 Conanicus Ave., Jamestown, passed away Nov. 13, 2010 at Newport Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Born in Anzano, Italy, a son of the late Angelo and Josephine (DePaola) Tarantino, he had been the husband of Anna ‘Nina’ (Pelella) Tarantino for 57 years.
Dr. Tarantino had worked as an obstetrician and gynecologist for many years before retiring and was a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, as well as a member of the Rhode Island Medical Society. He had a successful medical practice in Cranston, for over 50 years.
Besides his wife, he leaves his children, Angelo Tarantino of Long Island, Joann M. Tarantino of Boston, Paula J. Taylor of Miami and Doreen M. Tarantino of North Providence; six grandchildren; and a sister, Columbia Statuto. He was also the brother of the late Pasquale and Florio Tarantino.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Anthony’s Church in North Providence on Nov. 16.
Dr. Tarantino was a summer resident of Jamestown since 1988. His favorite pastime was spending summers with family and friends here on the island.
