Local student invited to United Nations convention
Ithaca College John Perrotti was invited to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Convention’s 16th Conference of Parties in Cancun, Mexico, from Nov. 27 to Dec. 4. Along with 15 other Ithaca students, officials, heads of state, and representatives of non-governmental organizations from 193 nations joined Perrotti.
Perrotti and his peers conducted an opinion survey called, “One Word: Climate Change.” The survey asked participants to provide one word that they think of when they hear the term “climate change.” The students also maintained a blog – “Negotiated Spaces” – and held video interviews that will be posted on sites such as YouTube.
“It is my generation that is going to reverse the impacts caused by industrialization and unsustainable economic growth,” Perrotti said. “Educating myself further will only allow me to educate the next person on the issue, and hopefully this will create a domino effect.”
Perrotti is a business administration major with a minor in environmental studies. He is the son of Jamestown residents, John and Bonnie Perrotti.
