Frederick Albert Reif
Frederick Albert Reif, 87, of Jamestown, died Dec. 17, 2010, at Newport Hospital.
Fred was born on Jan. 30, 1923, in Pasadena, Calif. He was a graduate of the University of Arizona, where he met and married his wife, Barbara Morrill Reif, of 62 years. Fred served in World War II where he was on the second wave at Omaha Beach and later in Belgium, where he was awarded a Purple Heart. Following the War and upon graduating, he pursued a career as a civil engineer. He worked for several renowned companies throughout the United States and the world. After serving over 20 years with Perini Corporation in Massachusetts, he and Barbara retired in Jamestown in 1985.
He was an active member in the Jamestown community where he served on the board of trustees at the Conanicut Yacht Club as well as the Jamestown Land Trust. He also thoroughly enjoyed spending his free time playing tennis with his wife and close friends.
He is survived by Barbara and their three daughters, Jean Mc- Donough and husband Gerard of Jamestown, Kelly Carr and husband Donner of East Greenwich, and Gwen Allread and her Jessee of Chico, Calif. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A private burial will be held with his family.
