Bird counters needed Saturday
The 28th annual Christmas Bird Count takes place on Saturday, Jan. 8, and anyone interested should meet at the Jamestown Police Station on Conanicus Avenue at 7 a.m. Participants will be divided into four groups: the farms, the north end, Beavertail and in-town. All birds observed will be counted and the results included in statewide records.
Bird counters should bring binoculars, field guides, sturdy shoes and warm clothing. The group will meet back at the police station at noon to tally results.
Residents are also invited to report birds seen at their homes and may call the results into Candy Powell at 423-1492 or Evelyn Rhodes at 423-1254. In the event of a storm, the count will take place on Sunday, Jan. 9. For more information or if weather is uncertain, call Powell.
