Jamestown man indicted on molestation, firearms charges

The Newport County Grand Jury handed up an indictment today charging Michael Caswell, 47, of Jamestown, with four counts of first degree child molestation, five counts of second degree child molestation, and three counts of possession of firearms by a person convicted of a crime of violence.

It is alleged that Caswell engaged in sexual contact with a child under the age of 14 on or about several dates between Aug. 1, 2008 and Sept. 30, 2008; Dec. 1, 2008 and Jan. 31, 2009; May 1, 2010 and Aug. 31, 2010; and between May 1, 2010 and Sept. 30, 2010.

It is also alleged that on or about Dec. 6, 2010, Caswell did purchase, own, carry, transport or have in control several firearms.

The incidents are alleged to have taken place in Jamestown. Jamestown Police conducted the investigation. Caswell will be arraigned on Monday in Newport County Superior Court.
