Michael Uggiano, 60, a lifelong resident of Rhode Island, passed away on March 16, 2011, in Natchitoches, La. Uggiano was born on Dec. 26, 1950.
Uggiano came to Jamestown when he was 8 years old while his father was stationed at the Newport Naval Base. After completing school at Rogers High School, Mike joined and served in the Army during the Vietnam conflict. He then settled in Jamestown while he traveled the world engaging his livelihood as an oil rig derrick operator and later moved to Aquidneck Island where he enjoyed working for Ben’s Landscaping. He returned to Louisiana in 2010 to re-engage his oil drilling occupation.
A larger-than-life character, Mike to some and “Uggie” to others, he was a true friend to many. He had a passion for rock music and in his early years was a drummer in a local band. He loved motorcycles and lived life to the fullest, always with a smile on his face regardless of what was thrown at him.
He is survived by his father, Nicholas, and his brother, Donald, both of Quincy, Mass.; former wife and life-long friend Kathy Budrock; and a loving niece, Ariane. He was predeceased by his friend and companion Patty (Burns) Sterns of Jamestown. Uggiano and his smile will be deeply missed by all that were fortunate enough to know him as a true gentlemen in a tough guy disguise.
A memorial service and celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
