Two islanders to perform at URI
The University of Rhode Island will hold a fournight Spring Jazz Series at the URI Fine Arts Center Concert Hall on 105 Upper College Road in Kingston. The concerts will be held on Thursday, April 21, Tuesday, April 26 and Thursday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m., and on Friday, April 29 at 8 p.m.
The jazz series opens on April 21 with the C100 Big Band, which is directed by Newport jazz guitarist John Monllos. The concert will feature a variety of swing, funk and Latin music, including pieces by Pat Metheny, Arturo Sandoval and Frank Foster. One of the highlights of the show will be Gordon Goodwin’s “Too Close for Comfort.” The band consists of 19 instrumentalists with vocalist Marina Ferri. Among the band members are two Jamestown residents, Sam Bari and Aaron Cote.
Seating for all concerts is on a first-come basis. The box office opens 45 minutes before each concert.
