Francis J. “Jim” West
Francis J. “Jim” West, 96, of Green Lane, died on April 27, 2011, in Portland, Texas. He was the husband of the late Alberta F. (Mc- Nair) West. Born in Jamestown, he was a son of the late Francis X. and Lily (MacKenzie) West; he was a lifelong Jamestown resident.
Mr. West was a carpenter and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, VFW 9447, Arnold Zweir Post No. 22 American Legion, St. Paul’s Lodge No. 14 F. & A.M. in Middletown, where he was a past master, DAV Curran- Hoagn Post Newport, No. 104 BPOE Newport, Jamestown Lions Club, Jamestown Stripers Club and the Valley of Providence Scottish Rite.
He was the loving father of Deborah West of Portland, Texas; caring brother of Lily Richardson of Georgia and the late Kenneth, William (Bill) and Donald West, Frances (Peg) Wallace, Jane Wilson and Marjorie (Midge) Strange; cherished grandfather of Deborah MacDonald of Barrington, Suzanne Meglen of Portland, Texas, Meredith MacDonald of Jamestown and the late Alfred J. Mac- Donald; great-grandfather of 10; great-great-grandfather of one.
A burial was held with military honors in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.
