Battery Day was a big success
On behalf of the Jamestown Historical Society, I would like to thank those who contributed to making the 2011 Conanicut Battery Day such a success.
Thanks to Jamestown’s chapters of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion who provided the color guard; the Jamestown Community Band for their wonderful patriotic music; the Jamestown Arts Center for the use of their chairs; Conanicut Marine Service for providing a shuttle service to the Battery from Mackerel Cove and for the use of their tent; our parking team of Pede Manchester, Owen Heath, James Chamberlain and Art Dutton; Dr. Kathryn Palen, pastor of Central Baptist Church, for the invocation; Bruce Long for the Del’s Lemonade; Jamestown Cub Scout Pack 1 and Boy Scout Troop 1; and, of course, the reenactors who added so much color, excitement and meaning to the ceremony.
Those who attended were filled with a sense of pride and patriotism for the many sacrifices that have been and continue to be made to secure our freedom. Conanicut Battery Day was a “blast” thanks to all of you.
