Islander graduates law school, gets engaged

Brendan Coffman, the son of Jasper and Karen Coffman of Lawn Avenue, was awarded his Juris doctorate during a May 21 ceremony at George Mason University School of Law. Coffman accepted an associate position in Washington, D.C., with the firm of David A. Balto where he will be practicing anti-trust law.

In addition, Coffman announced his engagement to Christina Boehm, daughter of Stephen and Rosalba Boehm of Bethesda, Md. A fall 2012 wedding is being planned.

Jamestown sophomore awarded scholarship

Emily Falces, a sophomore music major at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts, recently was named a Dorothy Chancellor Currey Scholarships in Music award winner. The $250 scholarship is given for excellence in music. She is one of five students to earn the award this year.

Two students named to junior honor society

Eighth-graders Olivia Faria and Christian Kirby of Monsignor Matthew Clarke Catholic Regional School (Wakefield) were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society during a ceremony held on June 9.

Christian was also awarded the annual Steve Hernandez Award. The honor is given to a student who demonstrates Christian values, is respectful and compassionate towards both peers and adults, is active in the Monsignor Clarke School community, and is a positive role model and representative of the school.
