Michael J. Infantolino

Michael J. Infantolino, MD, 61, of Jamestown, passed away unexpectedly July 21, 2011, while pursuing his passion. He was the beloved husband of Barbara A. (Washburn) Infantolino for 40 years.

Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Salvatore and Louise (Shakel) Infantolino.

Dr. Infantolino received a bachelor’s degree in health, recreation and physical education from the University of Rhode Island and received his medical degree from the University of Rome. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency through Brown University. He was an accomplished and respected surgeon throughout the state for more than 30 years. He had just recently retired to spend time with his family and friends, and to enjoy the beautiful coast while kite surfing.

Besides his wife, he leaves three children, Corinne E. Cambio, MD (Todd), Christian S. Infantolino (Elaine) and Gregory M. Infantolino (Bear); a brother, Joseph Infantolino (Susan); his dog Sadie; and three precious grandchildren, Amelia Rose, (Robert) Robby Michael and Jade Elizabeth.

Bumpa touched so many people in his short 61 years. He married his high school sweetheart, whom he loved and cherished, and together they raised a family “bound by blood”. Many people relied on him for advice and guidance. He truly loved so many as a surrogate parent. He always said that the key to a fulfilling life was to pursue your passion. He lived by this motto every day, whether it was caring for his patients, playing with his grandchildren in the pool, or kite surfing at the beach. We are consoled in the knowledge that he died doing what he loved.

His family asks that you take his mantra to heart. Love your family like no other. Find what you love to do, and do it as well as you can. Stay calm. Don’t touch the principal. Most importantly, as in the teaching of Buddha, love is the center of human life. Human happiness and human satisfaction must ultimately come from within oneself.

Memorial contribution may be made in his name to the Surf Rider Foundation, P.O. Box 43, Narragansett, RI 02882.
