Jamestown artist to be featured in Newport

Jamestown resident Jillian Barber will have her work featured at Newport Art Festival on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and on Sunday, Aug. 26, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Barber is a Rhode Island School of Design graduate with a degree in ceramics, where she studied with Norman Schulman and Dale Chihuly. An award-winning artist, Barber’s vibrant creations have graced homes, theatres, museums and schools and her active presence has enriched the arts community of Jamestown and Rhode Island. Her career has spanned ceramic sculpture, mask making, costume design, and more recently photography. Barber may be best known in Jamestown as the Artist in Residence for the tile mural at the Melrose Avenue School, which was created through a state grant. She also served as vice president of the board of directors for the Conanicut Island Art Association.

The festival will also feature two days of live blues, rock, folk and jazz music. General admission is $8. Children 12 years old and younger get in free.
