Conanicut Yacht Club elects new officers
The Conanicut Yacht Club recently elected its 2012 officers at its annual meeting on Aug. 18. Victor V. Calabretta is the new commodore, Susan Maffei Plowden is the new vice commodore and Don E. Wineberg is the new rear commodore.
Also elected were John Flinton, treasurer, and John R. Gowell, secretary. Jeff Cook, Duval Slingluff and J. Christopher Powell were re-elected to the board of trustees, along with new trustee member Andrew Kallfelz.
Vic Calabretta replaces past commodore Gerald B. Bay, who served from 2010 to 2011. Calabretta and his wife, Judy, are residents of Jamestown. He served as president of the Town Council in the early 1990s and is also past commodore of the Jamestown Yacht Club. With this election, Calabretta will be the first to have served as commodore of both yacht clubs in Jamestown.
Plowden is a principal with Suma Events, which provides event and media management for top-level sailing and marine sporting events. She is also vice president at Key Partners, a management consultant that oversees operations for Rolex SA’s sponsorship of worldwide sailing events. She resides in Jamestown with her husband, John.
Wineberg is an attorney with Chace Ruttenberg & Freedman, LLP, leading their health law practice, while also providing legal services to the International Yacht Restoration School and Museum of Yachting. An avid sailor and paddle tennis player, he resides in Jamestown with his wife, Kitty.
