Teen center schedules orientations, programs
The Jamestown Teen Center will host an orientation for parents and newcomers on Wednesday, Sept. 28, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the recreation center. New members and parents are encouraged to attend to meet the staff, tour the center and learn about program opportunities and register for programs.
Returning members are required to attend an orientation to discuss new participant handbook, code of conduct, discipline policies, limits and expectations, and program structure on either Tuesday, Sept. 13, or Tuesday, Sept. 20, from 6 to 7 p.m.
All teens must attend an orientation or schedule an appointment with staff to continue participation after Thursday, Sept. 29.
East Bay Youth Centers will have office hours at the teen center every Tuesday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. The EBYC offers youth employment services for 14- to 24-year-olds. The EBYC can help teens find a part-time job, apply to college, or write a resume.
Also, the Jamestown Teen Job Corps is looking for new members. Members of the job corps are frequently needed to help neighbors with yard work, household tasks and babysitting. This is a work-referral service for Jamestown residents.
PM PE will begin on Thursday, Sept. 22, from 6 to 7 p.m. and will continue each Thursday until Nov. 3. Teens in grades six through eight are invited to participate in sports such as flag football, baseball, kickball, volleyball, basketball, soccer, tennis and dodgeball. Cost for the PM PE program is $20 and is limited to first 12 participants.
