CIAA annual show featured 66 artists
On behalf of the Conanicut Island Art Association, I would like to express my gratitude to all those who helped and participated this year in our 37th annual Members Show. A successful five-day run at the Jamestown Recreation Center featured 66 artists exhibiting 125 works.
This year’s winners were Mary MacNally, first prize; Judy Knight, second prize; Ed Roche, third prize; and honorable mentions went to T. Ranger Smyth, Judith Anderson and Priscilla Foley.
Additionally, Knight’s lively ceramic sculpture – “Street Musicians” – received the Peoples’
Choice Award. On behalf of the association, I thank Todd Moore not only for his conscientious efforts as juror for the show, but also for donating his honorarium to the CIAA.
Space does not permit me to thank all the members by name who contributed to the show and its success. However, a few who volunteered so much of their time in the planning and execution of the show merit mention: Kim Pinksaw and her crew from Bridges who did much of the hauling of the heavy panels; Jill Goldstein and her staff at the recreation center; Joe Vechione and Don Miller who designed and built our new exhibition panels; Jim Buttrick and Jillian Barber who designed the show; Nancy French and her crew who erected the show; Allie Sabalis and Gail Bolger who handled the intake of art works; Tania Biddle who performed much of the planning and handled the artist data entry; Carol Gates who coordinated the many members who gave of their time to gallery sit; Maureen Rozes who supervised the catering for the opening; and Treasurer Virginia Gladding who expertly handled the financial side of the show.
Once again a hearty thanks to all, and I’m sure I speak for all of us as we anticipate next year’s 38th annual show, with Carol Gates taking over the reins.
