Wakefield DMV branch to close for renovations

The Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles will close its Wakefi eld branch for one week beginning Monday, Oct 17. The temporary shutdown will take place as renovations are scheduled at the Stedman Government Center located on Tower Hill Road in South Kingstown.

During this time, staff will be assigned to the Cranston and Middletown branches. DMV officials plan to reopen the Wakefield location on Monday, Oct. 24.

While the Wakefield branch is closed, all other DMV facilities will continue to maintain their regular schedules. DMV’s Cranston headquarters is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. The Woonsocket and Middletown branches are open 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Warren branch is open 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday only.

Online and mail-in transactions will be accepted and processed as usual. AAA locations will accept and process DMV transactions for AAA customers. Road test appointments will also be honored during this time, and the DMV Safety and Emission Garage will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Please note that written exams for permits and licenses, including commercial drivers’ licenses, will be available at the Cranston headquarters as scheduled.

In addition, the public may process certain transactions online at dmv.ri.gov, at local AAA offices, and through the mail.
