Pell Bridge opens for runners for first time
The inaugural Citizens Bank Newport Pell Bridge Run will be held on Sunday, Nov. 13, at 6:30 a.m. The race marks the first time that runners will be allowed to cross the bridge since its opening in 1969. The race will finish at the Citizens Bank branch in Washington Square.
The 4.2-mile run will benefit Meeting Street, Special Olympics Rhode Island and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center.
Volunteers are also needed for the event. Duties will include crowd control, cheering runners, handing out water and race medals, and general race support. Volunteers will received a free race T-shirt and will be provided with refreshments.
Interested parties are asked to arrive at the Newport & Bristol County Convention & Visitor’s Bureau between 4:30 and 6:15 a.m.
