Volunteers needed to raise, lower flags
Volunteers are needed to raise and lower more than 100 U.S. flags in preparation for the town’s Veterans Day festivities to be held on Friday, Nov. 11, at East Ferry.
Event organizers are asking volunteers to show up at East Ferry Memorial Square at 7 a.m. to help raise the flags, which were donated from families of island veterans and date back to the Spanish- American War. Volunteers are also needed to lower the flags at 3 p.m. following the ceremony.
Jamestown resident Lt. Col. John Cooper, a United States Air
Force pilot who is a student at the
Newport War College, will address the crowd at 11 a.m.
In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held in the recreation center.
