JHS finishes up its yearlong project

Many thanks to all the planners and participants of the just completed yearlong Jamestown and the Silver Screen series. Although the idea was initiated by the Jamestown Historical Society, representatives from 14 local nonprofit organizations and two members at large – Heidi Moon and Chris Walsh – participated in the planning.

The organizations which developed their own programs were: American Legion, Beavertail Lighthouse Museum Association, Conanicut Island Sailing Foundation, Conanicut Yacht Club, Friends of the Jamestown Library, Jamestown Arts Center, Jamestown Community Theatre, Jamestown Fire Department, Jamestown Historical Society, Jamestown Philomeni- an Library, Jamestown Recreation Center, Jamestown Teen Center, Quononoquott Garden Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Fifteen programs were presented, including the showing of films associated with Jamestown or Jamestowners, a film workshop and talks. In addition, the Jamestown Historical Society mounted a display about movies made in Jamestown at the Lawn Avenue School during spring term, and the summer exhibit at the Jamestown Museum was Jamestown on Stage and Screen.

It is hoped that in the future these organizations and others will collaborate on a theme of common interest.
