DUI

• Myles Nelson, 18, of Sampan Avenue, Jamestown, was charged Jan. 14 for first-offense DUI. According to police, Nelson was stopped on Seaside Drive for erratic operation of a motor vehicle. The defendant was held at the police station where he was arraigned by a justice of the peace. A re-arraignment was scheduled for Jan. 20 at 2nd Division District Court in Newport.

• Doreen R. Furtado, 55, of Cole Street, Jamestown, was charged Jan. 15 for first-offense DUI and refusal to submit to a chemical test. According to police, Furtado was stopped for allegedly driving on the wrong side of the road on High Street. The defendant was held at the police station where she was arraigned by a justice of the peace. A re-arraignment was scheduled for Jan. 20 at 2nd Division District Court in Newport.

Felony solicitation

Jason Gardiner, 18, of Spirketing Street, Jamestown, was charged Jan. 15 with soliciting another to commit a crime. According to police, an ad was posted on craigslist.com by someone stating they had recently moved to Jamestown and wanted to buy marijuana. Jamestown Detective Derek Carlino responded to the ad and the suspect allegedly arranged to purchase marijuana. Carlino, along with an undercover officer from the Newport Police Department, met with the suspect and the suspect allegedly solicited a drug transaction. The defendant was held at the police station and a felony screening was scheduled for Feb. 23 at the attorney general’s office in Newport.

License violation

Jessica Leonard, 19, of Blueberry Lane, Jamestown, was charged with driving without a valid license. Leonard was not held at the police station and was released with a summons. An arraignment was scheduled for Jan. 13 at 2nd Division Court in Newport.
