Thursday, Jan. 26 7 p.m., the School Committee will meet at Melrose Avenue School ‘Finding Darwin’s God’ will be discussion topic

The Central Baptist Church Guys’ Group will meet on Saturday mornings beginning Jan. 21 to discuss Dr. Kenneth R. Miller’s book, “Finding Darwin’s God.” Miller is a biologist faculty member at Brown University. His subtitle states: “A Scientist’s Search for Common Ground Between God and Evolution.”

The group will meet at the church on Saturdays at 7:30 a.m. for a hot breakfast and social time, followed by a discussion of the book. Participants are asked to buy the book, read it, and assist in food preparation or clean up. In the past the group has welcomed members of all faiths. Skeptics and scientists are invited.

The Affordable Care Act will be the focus of a forum that Jamestowner Maggie Kozel will lead on Sunday, Jan. 22, at 11 a.m. at Central Baptist Church.

The act, which was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama in March 2010, puts in place strong consumer protections, provides new coverage options, and gives individuals tools to make informed choices about their health care.

Kozel blogs on health-care issues for The Huffington Post and wrote about her own experiences in “The Color of Atmosphere: One Doctor’s Journey In and Out of Medicine.”

Five free yoga classes will be offered through the Jamestown Parks and Recreation Department and taught by certified yoga instructor Diana McCallister. No preregistration is required and beginners are welcome.

The free classes will be on Monday, Jan. 23, at 5 p.m. (yoga for all levels); Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 10 a.m. (relax and renew gentle yoga); Thursday, Jan. 26, at 10 a.m. (relax and renew gentle yoga); Thursday, Jan. 26, at 6 p.m. (yoga basics for beginners or students who want to explore alignment of basic poses); and Saturday, Jan. 28, at 9 a.m. (yoga for all levels).

All classes will be held at 2 Hammett Court, behind Baker’s Pharmacy. For more information, call McCallister at 423-1228.
