Trailer released for ‘Moonrise Kingdom’
The Rhode Island Film & TV Office has recently announced that the theatrical trailer for Wes Anderson’s newest feature film – “Moonrise Kingdom” – is available at film.ri.gov/Moonrise. html. Scenes from the movie were shot at Fort Wetherill.
Co-written by director Anderson and Roman Coppola, and heralding an all-star cast as well as a host of local Rhode Island talent, “Moonrise Kingdom” was filmed entirely in the Ocean State and will showcase the beautiful destination to a global audience. Focus Features will release the movie beginning on May 25.
Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, ‘Moonrise Kingdom’ tells the story of two 12-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing offshore – and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle.
Bruce Willis plays the local sheriff. Edward Norton is a Khaki Scout troop leader. Bill Murray and Frances McDormand portray the young girl’s parents. The cast also includes Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, and Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward as the boy and girl.
After viewing the trailer, Rhode Island Film & TV Office Executive Director Steven Feinberg said, “The movie, and Rhode Island as a location, looks amazing. The brief glimpse we get whets our appetite for ‘Moonrise Kingdom’s’ theatrical release. This is pure Wes Anderson at his very best. Check it out!”
Scenes from the movie were shot in Rhode Island in May and June. Locations included Jamestown, Lincoln Woods State Park, Arcadia Wildlife Management Area, Newport State Airport and Prudence Island.
