Lama Pema Wangdak will speak at library
Lama Pema Wangdak, a Tibetan teacher who won the 2009 Ellis Island Medal of Honor for his worldwide humanitarian work, will speak at the Jamestown Philomenian Library on Saturday, Feb. 4, at 4 p.m.
Wangdak has been a monk since he was 7 years old, and came to the United States in 1982 as the first of the younger generation of Tibetan teachers in America from the Sakya School. He is also the creator of bur yig – Tibetan braille. He has lived in New York City for the last 30 years working on a project to help thousands of poor Tibetan refugees suffering from medical conditions.
He will also address the subject of Dharma, the spiritual path that humans choose to follow, both from a Buddhist perspective and from a universal standpoint.
