Schumann, Liszt will be featured at recital
Pianist Constantine Finehouse will perform on Sunday, March 11, beginning at 2 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. The recital is sponsored by the Jamestown Community Piano Association.
The concert will feature two masterworks of Romantic literature, Robert Schumann’s fantasie in C major and Franz Liszt’s piano sonata in B minor, understood by some scholars to be a musical depiction of the legend of Faust. Schumann’s work bears a dedication to Liszt, whose sonata is in turn dedicated to Schumann. The program will begin with Wolfgang A. Mozart’s fantasie in D minor.
In 2011 Finehouse stepped forward on one day’s notice to fill in for the featured pianist at the association’s March concert, which included a performance of Beethoven’s sonata in F major.
The concert is free and open to the public. The association does accept donations for piano maintenance and performance support. For more information, call 423- 0515.
