Thanks to everyone who helped with D.C. trip
We recently returned from Washington, D.C., with a group of eighth-grade students and wanted to acknowledge those that helped to make this special trip possible.
Our thanks go to Mrs. Almanzor and Isabel Jepson for their support and assistance throughout the process. We held several fundraising efforts and want to acknowledge Regina Cox for coordinating the efforts at the East Ferry Deli, Leah McGowan for assisting with the yard sale and off-site cookie dough sales, all families that participated in the frozen pie and cookie dough sales, and those that participated in the yard and bake sale.
We also received financial assistance from the following local organizations: the Rotary Club, Jamestown Education Fund, Jamestown PTO, Jamestown Police Department, Ali Dunn Packer Memorial Fund and Exxon/Jamestown Mist. With all of these combined efforts we were able to reduce the per student cost by $160!
There were 52 students who were all well behaved and represented Lawn Avenue School and the town of Jamestown in a very positive light. Our tour guides were quite impressed with the caliber of students we had on the trip.
We would be remiss if we did not thank the chaperones that joined us on the trip: Linda Jamison, Durga Larkin, Charlie Normand, Valerie Perrotti, Karen Stanford, Tony Rafanelli and three of our teachers, Mr. McGovern, Mr. Alfred and Ms. DeSantis. Without their support this trip would not have been possible.
You would have been proud of this group of young men and women. It was a great educational experience for the students, particularly since the United States government and U.S. history are major topics they study in the eighth grade.
Thank you again to all who helped to make this trip happen.
