Sign-language classes to be held at library
A 10-week course in sign language will be held from April 12 through June 14 at 7 p.m. at the Jamestown Philomenian Library.
The class will be taught by Gemma Guinguing, who won Miss Deaf Rhode Island in 2005.
Guinguing was born in the Philippines and is a strong advocate for the hearing impaired. She voluntarily assists community organizations in how to assist and communicate with deaf people, including firefighters, community groups and police agencies. She was a recent honoree of the Rhode Island Women’s Center Award.
The program is free and open to anyone ages 14 or older. Preregistration is required by calling 423- 7280.
