Former Press reporter releases book on China
Caroline Frank, a former reporter for the Jamestown Press, recently released her book titled “Objectifying China, Imagining America: Chinese Commodities in Early America.”
In her book, Frank discusses the ever-expanding presence of China in the global economy and how Americans more and more look east for goods and trade – but, according to Frank, this is not a new development.
China loomed as large in the minds of 18th century Americans as it does today. Long before they had achieved independence from Britain and were able to sail to Asia themselves, American mariners, merchants and consumers were aware of the East Indies and preparing for voyages there.
The book can be purchased online from the University of Chicago Press.
