Students encouraged to walk to school

According to the Jamestown School Department, a student who walks or rides a bike to school arrives more mentally prepared for learning, and tend to be more physically fit than children who are driven to school. Therefore, the department is asking that students use the upcoming April school break as an opportunity to find the safest, most efficient route from their homes to school.

“If your children are a bit young to go on their own and you don’t have the ability to go with them every day,” said Samira Hakki, director of technology, “try teaming up with another neighborhood parent or put together a group of kids that can go together.”
