Volunteers needed for Earth Day cleanup

Please join the Jamestown Conservation Committee on Saturday, April 21, for our annual Earth Day cleanup. We need your help, and especially, we need the help of your children.

Little hands are good for pick’n and the memory of the bits of trash they get link them to the millions of other hands – big and small – on which our future rests.

We will meet at the Jamestown Recreation Center at 8:30 a.m. for coffee and muffins, generously provided by Slice of Heaven. Teams will then be dispatched to all of Jamestown’s public shoreline access areas to pick up the garbage.

The Conanicut Island Land Trust will serve a gourmet lunch at noon: burgers, Italian sausages and hot dogs provided by Windmist Farm and Watson Farm.

Sites will include: East Ferry Town Beach, Potter’s Cove, Park Dock, Jamestown Shores Beach, Fort Getty, Mackerel Cove, Hull Cove, Sheffield Cove and West Ferry.

In the journey of a gum wrapper from the hand that leaves it to one that finds it is a story that can change people, and one that needs to be told. You can make a difference – fill up a bag of trash with us Saturday. Help keep Jamestown beautiful and save the world.

We will supply the bags, you will need work clothes and gloves. Volunteers with trucks would be especially appreciated as we need to collect the bags roadside and deposit them in the dumpster donated by Island Rubbish Services. The Jamestown Conservation Commission would like to thank all prospective volunteers in advance for their assistance with this Earth Day project.
