DMV now excepting credit cards, not Visa
Transacting business at the state Division of Motor Vehicles just got easier. Governor Lincoln Chafee recently announced that customers may now use credit cards to make payments at DMV. Until now, all transactions required payment of fees by cash or check only.
“Customers can now make quick and easy credit card payments without worrying about bringing cash or writing a check to cover their DMV transaction,” said Governor Chafee.
The DMV now accepts Master- Card, Discover and American Express credit cards. No debit cards are accepted. At this time, the state does not have agreements with other credit card companies. There is a minimum service fee of $1.50 per transaction. A service fee of 2.35 percent will be applied for each transaction $64.00 and over. The state does not keep any portion of this fee.
