When in doubt we can always form a committee

It is an overworked expression describing the actions of various governmental bodies these days, but one has to wonder if the Town Council is again “kicking the can down the road.”

The council announced Monday evening that it is now considering the establishment of a committee to contemplate the future of Fort Getty.

It reminds me of the old days when the council was trying to determine where to place the public works facility commonly referred to as the highway barn. Committees were appointed one after another.

It seemed that highway barn committee recommendations were abandoned when council members did not agree with the panel’s recommendations. Then a new committee would be appointed. It took years for the current highway barn to become reality.

Will such a Fort Getty committee really accomplish anything, or is such a move an attempt to pass the problem along to the next Town Council? Maybe Fort Getty is our highway barn of the decade.
