N.K. Girl Scouts win community award
On Monday, May 7, the North Kingstown Town Council will recognize the winner of the 2012 We Are Proud of You Award at the Beechwood Center at its regular meeting at 7:30 p.m.
The vote was conducted at Spirit Day on March 24 and the winners were the Girl Scouts of North Kingstown, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts of America and the local troop’s own impressive efforts in our community. Slocum Grange came in second, Horse Play came in third, and the Friends of the North Kingstown Animal Shelter finished fourth. The award was for North Kingstown individuals and organizations working to help others anywhere in the world and included animal welfare. The Girl Scouts of North Kingstown will not only receive recognition from the town council, but the girls will also perform a flag ceremony and receive a plaque from the Spirit Day Committee that will be presented to them by last year’s winner, Toray Plastics of America. Toray received the award in 2011 for its solar green energy project. Shigeru Osada, vice president of Toray, has agreed to present the plaque to the scouts. North Kingstown Town Council meetings are open to the public.
