St. Matthew’s to host piano concert Sunday
Pianist Manabu Takasawa will return to Jamestown on Sunday, May 13, for the final concert of the Jamestown Community Piano Association’s 2011-12 season. The piano recital will begin at 2 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church.
Takasawa will open his program with six intros from Claude Debussy’s “Préludes.” He will then play two pieces by Amy Beach – one from 1921 and one from 1892. The works were chosen to honor the 100th anniversary of the Jamestown Historical Society. The concert will conclude with Ludwig van Beethoven’s Opus 35. These 15 variations and fugue are commonly known as the “Eroica Variations.”
Takasawa is an associate professor of music and co-director of piano graduate studies at the University of Rhode Island. For more information, call 423-0515.
