Volunteers needed for Saturday’s bird count
The 28th annual Conanicut Island Spring Bird Count will take place Saturday, May 12. Those wishing to participate should meet at the police station at 6:30 a.m. with binoculars, a field guide and sturdy walking shoes.
Volunteers will be divided into four groups: the North End, the farms, downtown and Beavertail. Birders should reconvene at the police station at noon to tally the birds and break for lunch. The afternoon session is more informal, typically used to search areas not covered in the morning.
In previous years, as many as 112 species were tallied. For more information, call Candy Powell at 423-1492.
