Lecture will focus on America’s Cup on TV

On Tuesday, May 22, Stan Honey, the director of technology for the America’s Cup, will make a special appearance at the International Yacht Restoration Center in Newport at 8 p.m. He will discuss the technology behind the America’s Cup, including TV graphics, race operations and umpiring.

Honey is a two-time Emmy winner and a major figure in technological innovation in sports television. In the past, America’s Cup broadcasts have only featured graphics visible in an animated view of the race. For the 34th Cup, Honey has developed a system to track the Cup catamarans and superimpose graphics on live helicopter footage to attract a new generation of fans and engage experienced sailors.

Admission is free but seating is limited. For more information, call Tricia Yeoman at 619-0258.
