Scattering Seeds

BY JOHN A. MURPHY

Please forgive some stream-of-consciousness reverie. I am about to experience a personal milestone – turning 67 on Sunday – and the impending event has produced a little bit of introspection.

I’ve been writing this weekly column for nearly one year now, the first one having appeared in the Jamestown Press published on June 2, 2011. I appreciate and am grateful for the opportunity to share thoughts on topics of importance, which are, one hopes, of concern to you.

I’m going now to spend a bit of time overseas, visiting a daughter and son-in-law who reside far away, in a country with a culture totally different than ours. No matter what the cultural differences may be, human nature having universal characteristics, we have confidence that we shall encounter people with fundamentally the same desires and needs as those we find right here in Jamestown.

Perhaps the upcoming experience will provide new insights into the human condition and life here in our beautiful town. If so, it would be fun to be given a chance to share them.

In the meantime, a little sabbatical begins next week.
