Clarke N. Westall
Born in Newport on Dec. 25, 1950, he was a son of the late William H. and Mary E. (Clarke) Westall.
Clarke served in the Rhode Island National Guard for seven years. A police officer, Clarke served on the Jamestown Police Department for 32 years before retiring.
He served as president of the International Brotherhood of Police Officers, Local 305, for eight terms and negotiated four contracts during that time.
He participated in the excavation of the Indian burial ground at the Lawn Avenue School site in the 1960s.
Clarke loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, boating and skiing. He served on the ski patrol at Bretton Woods, N.H., for five years.
Besides his wife and daughter, he leaves three children from a previous marriage, Justin Westall of York, S.C., Julia Westall of N.C., and Joshua Westall of Mount Holy, N.C.; two brothers, William H. Westall II and Lee Westall, both of Jamestown; two sisters, Dale Gladding of Jamestown and Linda Gillis of Solon, Maine; and six grandchildren.
A celebration of Clarke’s life will be held on June 24 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Jamestown Tavern. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Jamestown EMS, P.O. Box 8, Jamestown, RI 02835.
