Watch ‘Charlotte’ at arts center next week
The Jamestown Arts Center will show the film “Charlotte” on Monday, June 25, at 8 p.m. The film will be shown in conjunction with the America’s Cup World Series, which is being held at Fort Adams in Newport. “Charlotte” celebrates the traditional art of New England wooden boat building. The movie celebrates the vivid contrast between the modern and the classic.
The documentary is filmed in Martha’s Vineyard, detailing the design, construction and launch of a 50-foot gaff rigged schooner. Over the course of 3 1/2 years, using nothing but wood, custom fabricated metal fittings and salvaged navigation equipment, the film documents Gannon & Benjamin Marine Railway owners Nat Benjamin and Ross Gannon as they create the vessel.
A wine and cheese reception will precede the film at 7 p.m., and a Q-and-A will follow the screening. Cost is $10. More information about the movie can be found on CharlotteTheFilm.com.
